Introduction

The Isle Maligne Society's name is drawn from a chapter in Duke University's history: Isle Maligne (eel ma-leen), an island in the Saguenay River in the Canadian province of Quebec, was the site of one of James B. Duke's largest entrepreneurial ventures. Mr. Duke realized that when leaders pool their financial resources, they can fulfill grand ambitions and attain lofty goals. The Fuqua School of Business is built on this principle of leadership.

Since its founding in 1983, the Isle Maligne Society has grown from its forty charter members to more than 1,000 donors. These individuals, who contribute a minimum of $1,000 to Fuqua annually, continue to be the school's leaders and most generous supporters.

Membership levels

Lifetime membership in the Isle Maligne Society is bestowed on alumni and friends who have committed at least $100,000 in cumulative gifts and pledges to The Fuqua School of Business. The four recognition levels are:

Founders  $10 million or more over a lifetime
 Senior Principals  $5 - 9.9 million over a lifetime
 Principals  $1 -4.9 million over a lifetime
 Centurions  $100,000 over a lifetime

Annual membership in the Isle Maligne Society is reserved for donors whose individual gifts and pledge payments to Fuqua's Annual Fund total at least $1,000 within a fiscal year. The five recognition levels are:

Executives  $25,000 or more per year
Directors  $10,000 to $24,999 per year
Managers  $5,000 to $9,999 per year
Fellows  $2,500 to $4,999 per year
Shareholders  $1,000 to $2,499 per year

While membership in the Isle Maligne Society is based on individual giving, these levels also include contributions from companies with matching gifts programs . If you donate $500 to the Annual Fund and your company matches that gift with another $500, you are recognized for the full $1,000 donation, and are designated as a member of the Isle Maligne Society. Please note, for IRS purposes, you may only deduct your personal contribution.
