On-campus interviews are an excellent way to maximize recruiting resources and time. Over 150 companies typically participate in this program each year!

Successful on-campus interviews require considerable advance planning and careful attention to detail. You will work with your Corporate Account Manager to choose the format of the interviews, the amount of time allotted to each, and the number of interviews you conduct throughout the day. You also may decide how many of your interview slots will be available to pre-selected candidates and how many will be open to students who bid for an opportunity to meet with you.

Dates are still available for on-campus interviews for internships and full-time positions.  If you have yet to register, please do so as soon as possible.

Your Interview Date

Successful recruiting companies take a strategic approach to when they conduct their first-round interviews on-campus, host second-round or on-site interviews, and extend employment offers. Your Corporate Account Manager can work with you to strategize the best timing for your interviews, taking into account your hiring calendar, other recruiting events, and business needs.

Interviews are typically conducted Monday through Friday according to this year’s recruiting calendar .

Second-year on-campus interviews Inwith second-year interviews beginning October 13, 2008, for full-time opportunities and first-year interviews beginning January 5, 2009, for internship roles. Campus interviews can continue for both full-time and intern positions throughout the academic year with the exception of holiday breaks and final exams.

To sign up for an interview date or another recruiting event, please register via Recruit@Duke, our online recruiter resource. Your Corporate Account Manager can provide a username and password to help you get started.

Interview Schedule Format

You may choose interviews that are 30, 45, or 60 minutes in duration. All schedules include two fifteen-minute breaks and a one-hour lunch. If you would like time between each interview to complete evaluation forms, we have created a 45-minute schedule that provides a 15-minute break after each interview. If you would like more than one representative to interview each candidate, rotational schedules may also be created.

Additional rooms for greeting students in advance of the interview are available as space allows. Please contact your Corporate Account Manager for details.

Job Descriptions

Students use the job descriptions you provide to determine whether they are interested in the position for which you are interviewing. Job descriptions should be provided at least 12 weeks before your interviews take place.

Ratio of Closed to Open Interview Slots

You may choose the number of interview slots reserved for candidates you select for a "closed" or invitation list. Our recommendation is that you leave at least a fourth of your interview slots open to students who bid for opportunities to interview with you. Students not included on your closed list may express interest in interviewing with your company by "bidding" to win a space on your schedule. This bidding process fills the remaining slots on your interview schedule.

Interview “Closed List”

Approximately three weeks before your interviews, you will be able to review resumes of students who are interested in interviewing with your company. You and your colleagues will have one week to review the resumes and select candidates for your "closed list," including three or more alternates. Any interview slots that remain open once all closed list and alternate candidates have been accommodated will be filled by student bidders unless you request otherwise.

If the CMC does not receive the closed list or an update from the recruiting partner by the due date, we offer the following options:

  1. The company may reschedule their on-campus interview for the next available date to allow for the extra time needed to decide on closed list candidates; or
  2. The company may keep the interview schedule on the original date and the CMC will open the interview schedule up to all bidders.

If the recruiter does not express a preference, the default option will be to reschedule the on-campus interview date.

The resumes of interested Executive MBA students will be included with those of Daytime MBA students when you are evaluating candidates for full-time opportunities.

Pre-interview Events

Many recruiting companies host social gatherings the night before their interviews. The Career Management Center does not coordinate these events, but can provide recommendations for venues. Review our list of restaurants for venue suggestions.

Final Interview Schedule

Your interview schedule is available via Recruit@Duke on the Wednesday one week prior to your actual interview date. Because of the complexity of creating schedules for a large number of students and companies, we adhere stringently to these deadlines each week.

Please review the schedule carefully and contact your Corporate Account Manager with any questions or concerns. It is important that you do not make any changes to interview times or candidates without first notifying your Corporate Account Manager, as this can create major scheduling conflicts.

Interview Facilities

On-campus interviews are conducted at Duke in specially designated interview rooms on the fourth floor of the Keller Center East. During peak times, some interviews will be held on the second floor of the Keller Center East in the student team rooms. If your representatives are not able to conduct interviews on-site at Duke, it is possible to conduct them by telephone or videoconference.

Some recruiting companies choose to hold their interviews at other facilities in the Raleigh/Durham area. If your company would like to consider this option, please speak with your Corporate Account Manager or consult our list of local hotels .

Companies that interview off campus are required to adhere to our recruiting policies .

Interview Day Details

You will be greeted on the fourth floor by Career Management Center staff who will ask you for two business cards. The staff member will provide your final interview schedule, copies of student resumes, and additional information about recruiting at Fuqua. You will be shown to your interview room which is equipped with a telephone and Internet connectivity.

In our recruiters' lounge we will provide continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks throughout the day. A Career Management Center staff member will be available all day to answer any questions you have or assist you as needed.

When your interview schedule is over, we will collect any student interview evaluations you have completed. If you need transportation to the airport, please let the staff member on duty know, and he or she will call a taxi service for you.

Please see Visit Our Campus  for directions and parking information.

Second-round Interviews

If you would like to hold your second-round interviews at Duke, you may do so on any day that we have available space. You are responsible for contacting students to invite them to second-round interviews.

If you know the dates for your company’s on-site callback interviews or sell events, please provide that information to your Corporate Account Manager so that we may share these dates with our students.
